When Fear & Worries Engulf You

Most of our fears are unreal. They are imagined and exaggerated in our own minds. They arise due to the challenges we face over a period of time and our perceptual helplessness to overcome them. Fear might also be vicariously learnt by observing others go through the same experience.

I would like to share TWO FUNDAMENTAL QUESTIONS that I often use myself and with my clients to overcome fear.

1. What Is In My Control and What Is Not?

If I can do something about it, I better do it to overcome the fear. But, if it is beyond my control, then Que Sera Sera
Whatever will be, will be. The Future is not mine to see. This fundamental principle of Stoic philosophy has been a very helpful tool to many of my clients in managing their fears and worries. It teaches us to embrace the unpredictability of life and accept that not everything can be in our control.

2. What's The Worst That Can Happen?

This question will help put things into perspective. It will help us realise that often the worst-case scenario as catastrophic as our imagination might have led us to believe and that we are not the first one to go through this turmoil.  So, if others have overcome it, so can we. These two questions have been tried and tested and can lead to a more rational and measured response to challenging situations. in general, a combination of mindfulness, rational thinking and self-reflection can be very powerful tools for managing fear and anxiety.its important to remember that while we cannot always control all external events we can control our response to them, and this can make a significant difference in how we experience and navigate life's challenges.
